Plastic is everywhere. Every bit of plastic ever created still exits- somewhere in some form or the other.

Single use plastics like bags, straws, takeaway containers, cutlery, cups etc. are a prime source of plastic pollution and end up in landfill or in our waterways and oceans where they get mistaken for food by animals and birds. These single use plastics rarely get recycled as we do not have enough recycling facilities plus they are too dirty and light weight to get recycled.

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them.

Of the 8.3 billion metric tons that has been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons has become plastic waste. Of that, only nine percent has been recycled. The vast majority—79 percent—is accumulating in landfills or sloughing off in the natural environment as litter. Meaning: at some point, much of it ends up in the oceans, the final sink.
