The naturally fallen leaves of Areca Palm (every year a tree sheds about 7-8 leaves and no trees are harmed or cut down in this process) are washed and cleaned and them hot pressed into different shape and size plate and platters. No sealants, binding agents, glues are used in this process. The natural fibre of the leaves is quite strong, making it a good natural alternate to plastic disposable tableware. In fact this palm leaf platter resembles a lot like a wooden platter.

The environmental impact of single use plastic products is phenomenal- it's everywhere, used for a few minutes, discarded where it rarely gets recycled, ends up in landfill or our waterways. The plastic production and consumption has exceeded world's capacity to deal with it. Less than 9% of the plastic produced every year gets recycled plus on top of it we are making more and more plastic every year (according to some estimates, global plastic production has passed 360 million tons a year).

Palm Leaf Platter is a low impact product- raw material is derived from a sustainable and naturally replenishing resource (unless we humans overdo it too much with our mass consumption habits), requires less resources to make into a finished product and we use bulk sea shipping (it does have impact as well) to reduce our impact in logistics activities (we offset all our carbon emissions on local level).

Switching to good quality reusables (as it requires resources to make them as well) should be our goal but if we ever have to go single use then search for alternates that are close to the nature and can be returned back to the nature without leaving a negative impact behind.

IS THIS TABLEWARE COMPOSTABLE?
Yes, being Plant Leaves this tableware is 100% home & backyard compostable and does not require industrial composting. Simply bury it in the ground or in a compost bin where it will break down with the elements of nature.

We make sure all our products are sourced from sustainable materials and all our suppliers and stakeholders are treated fairly and respectfully. We are a Certified B-Corp which says a lot about our standards.

PACKAGING:
This product comes in a soft plastic packaging which is recyclable at Redcycle recycling. Being leaf Plates, they absorb moisture from the environment and we have tried other alternatives which so far haven't been able to solve the problem. We believe packaging is our responsibility and the onus is on us and not the consumers to find a solution to this packaging problem.

Hence, We partnered with RedCycle and customers can return the packaging at various collection bins located at Coles & Woolworths across the nation.
